Help us tell the rich story of Fort Des Moines. Here is how.
We are planning to refresh and update our decade-old exhibitions with newly-acquired artifacts and images—but we need more. Also, new research information about individual black officers from World War I, and WACs from World War II awaits public showing. There is so much more so please help us locate it.
We have specific needs and would be glad to share those with you. We employ the following collecting criteria: the items must have a specific or generalized connection to the history of the Fort. We seek items such as World War I uniforms and weapons black officers or soldiers would have worn or used (American or French); photos/videos of soldiers in service at the fort of elsewhere; souvenirs of service such as service records and scrapbooks, related items. Items are tax deductible as we are a 501c3 organization. We cannot officially appraise the item, but can help you determine its value. Another example of a great need in our collection of WAC material is that we do not have examples of all the different WAC uniforms used during World War II and the years afterward.
As you know, it takes money to produce quality educational materials for our visitors and students we see in the classroom. Tax-deductible donations are welcome. The museum gladly acknowledges all donors at the site of the presentation, be it an exhibit or video.
